Playing for Real: Esports Ergonomics

I have always been interested in esports - both as a spectator and casual player. Back in 2017, while watching CS:GO tournaments one thing became clear: players were facing a myriad of issues spanning physical aspects (e.g., equipment and tournament spaces), cognitive aspects (e.g., fan pressure, team communication) and organisational aspects (involving team management, training schedules and so on). My background in ergonomics motivated an investigation on this space trying to understand how the field of ergonomics and human factors could contribute to esports research and ecosystem. These efforts culminated in two separate publications presented at the International Ergonomics Association conference in 2018 and 2021.
